My goal is to make a little pillow cover for myself and one for my brother too - it will be a father's day gift from me and our dad.Poindexterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02754293708567921996noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5455712904694318171.post-49621281684223016862010-03-11T06:28:24.000-06:002010-03-11T06:28:24.000-06:00This will be such a special addition to your home-...This will be such a special addition to your home--for so many reasons. The treasure you found when you opened that box! I often think of the people who originally dreamed up the design, the composition, the construction of our fondest items. Would they love to see the eventual destination and placement of their art within our homes? I think so. And the maker of that original kimono surely would love your pillow.Poindexterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02754293708567921996noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5455712904694318171.post-14896662861512177492010-03-10T09:43:15.000-06:002010-03-10T09:43:15.000-06:00well, in the spirit of true confessions, I am WAY ...well, in the spirit of true confessions, I am WAY guilty of leverating the content in design blogs for education, inspiration and even some flagrant copying. None of my decorating accomplishments, if they can be called that, are purely original ideas. I'm just happy that I can freshen the visual appeal of old books, certificates, fabric remnants, seashells, random keys, clocks, linens, etc. All in combination with my old furniture. It's been an interesting experience to move dining room furniture into the parlor, bedroom furniture into the entry way or living room, dining chairs into the guest bedroom. Mixing things up in the house has served to add a layer of textural interest from room to room. Without really buying much of anything.Poindexterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02754293708567921996noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5455712904694318171.post-79690010500082317922010-03-10T07:35:11.000-06:002010-03-10T07:35:11.000-06:00"The more time I spend thinking about and pur..."The more time I spend thinking about and pursuing the process of decorating our home, the more I am convinced that decorating is not about copying the elements from a picture of someone else’s house. At least not for me. It’s about arranging the things I possess with love and creativity. It’s about finding ways to maximize the use and beauty of everything. " I've never heard it said better...that is the "art" of a home.Poindexterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02754293708567921996noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5455712904694318171.post-81249827025562105522010-03-09T16:22:01.000-06:002010-03-09T16:22:01.000-06:00I agree completely; decorating is about arranging ...I agree completely; decorating is about arranging a home. What a lovely thing to have added to yours. And how appropriate you both had a piece of it, you and your dad. I too, only sew by hand. I made my kids capes when they were little superheroes and princesses and I've done pillows too. Somehow makes it mean more.Poindexterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02754293708567921996noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5455712904694318171.post-8545964781144712692010-03-09T11:44:20.000-06:002010-03-09T11:44:20.000-06:00Lovely post Diane, way to maximize something to ho...Lovely post Diane, way to maximize something to honor your father. Now you have me thinking about the material culture of my own life and the ways in which I might be able to incorporate it into our design process.Poindexterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02754293708567921996noreply@blogger.com
